The Team

We have teams of Veterinary surgeons, nurses, support and admin staff all dedicated to their jobs. We all work together to provide a professional, caring service to you and  your animals - 24 hours a day. Find out more about our staff on the 'Team' pages and read what our clients say about the practice and staff on the client feedback page.

History

The practice was founded in 2001 by Roger Scott who, back in his home town after 12 years working elsewhere, had identified the need in the area for his concept of a "departmentalised" practice that would offer dedicated teams for farm, equine and small animals. He was soon joined by Jo Bates (then Royle), and others, who helped get to work on the concept.

In 2003 Colin Mitchell joined the practice to further develop the equine department. Colin brought extra experience in the equine sector and shared Roger's vision to build an equine unit in Hexham. In 2005, the business moved from its small surgery within the main mart building to its very own purpose-designed practice across the way on Tyne Green. The business has grown year on year and today hosts 9 vets as well as nurses and administration staff.

The surgery provides modern hospital style facilities for all species and is permanently staffed for 24 hour care- and that's special!

XLVets

Roger, in 2005, was part of the steering commitee that formed XLVets - a cooperative group of 50 independently owned, progressive veterinary practices, all committed to excellence in their fields. Spanning the length and breadth of the UK, the member practices work together, sharing experience, knowledge, skills and resources in order to define and deliver the highest standards of veterinary practice, health, welfare and productivity. Scott Mitchell are proud to be founder members of this great organisation.

Client education

Since 2001 we have been delivering a diverse range of courses and we remain as committed as ever to this important, proactive aspect of our service. We currently deliver the excellent farmskills courses and a range of client education for horse and pet owners.

Rainbow Pets

In a determined effort to ensure the highest of standards and most responsible attitude to pet ownership we work closely with the local pet shop. We supervise the care and management of the pets and provide consultancy on the products sold. We liaise with the RSPCA and are proud to be official re-homers of unwanted pets. Seeing these pets go to new homes is one of the many rewarding aspects of our jobs.
