Ill thrift in ewes

Often at weaning farmers report ewes to be in poorer condition than expected. There can be a number of reasons for this. Missing teeth and bad feet are the two main reasons that are easily ruled out. Thereafter worms, fluke, Johnes, OPA(Jaagsiekte), Maeni Visna and trace element deficiencies are some of the reasons why ewes might be thin.

Taking blood and faeces samples from 10 cull sheep can be useful in identifying underlying causes of ill thrift you might not have been aware of.
